I'm Michael Thomas. Creator of The Vagal Method. Nervous system regulation coach, breathwork instructor, and founder of Plunsana — a contrast therapy studio in St. Petersburg, FL.

I've guided more than 5,300 people through vagal reset protocols. Live, virtual, and in the water.

The Story

Why I Built This

My marriage ended. My business collapsed. In the same season.

I wasn't depressed. I wasn't broken. But I was dysregulated in ways I didn't have language for yet. I couldn't sleep. I couldn't focus. My gut was wrecked. My nervous system was running on fumes and I kept trying to think my way through it.

Therapy helped me process what happened. But it didn't stop my heart from pounding at 3am. It didn't fix the fog. It didn't give me my recovery back.

I found breathwork by accident. I went through Wim Hof instructor training because I thought the cold would be good for me. I was right, but not for the reasons I expected.

The cold didn't just make me tougher. It reset something. The breath didn't just calm me down. It changed the signal. My nervous system started responding differently. Faster. Cleaner. More resilient.

I spent the next four years studying why. The vagus nerve kept showing up as the answer to everything. Sleep. Mood. Gut. Immunity. Stress response. Heart rate. All of it runs through one nerve that almost no one is talking about.

I built The Vagal Method because no one had connected the dots. Breathwork was over here. Cold therapy was over there. Heat was somewhere else. But none of them, alone, were doing the full job. The sequence mattered. The nerve was the target.

I opened Plunsana in St. Petersburg to give people a physical place to do the work. Sauna, cold plunge, breathwork in sequence. More than 5,000 people have come through those doors.

The Vagal Method is everything I learned, systematized. It's the protocol I wish I'd had when my world came apart. It works because it doesn't target the mind. It targets the nerve that runs the body the mind lives in.
